A Simple Mantel

February 16, 2013
If you follow my blog you will remember that I had a rustic and pretty busy Christmas mantel, and my Valentine's Day mantel was pretty full too.

I chose a more de-cluttered look for the after Valentine's Day, not-yet-spring mantel.

I brought out one of my favorite vintage pictures of a tea set, vase of flowers and book in an antique gold frame.  I love it's muted colors.  I also chose a symmetrical design and substituted china fruit bowls and saucers for height instead of books. I have had the outer floral pictures for over 10 years but they are not vintage.

The head vases aren't exactly the same but close.

 A vintage handbag.

I painted my walls white last spring after 10 years of yellow, and I just love gold frames against the white walls.

Thanks for reading my blog, Carlene

  1. Carlene, your mantle is really striking looking, (the mantle itself). I love the woodwork details. Also the decorations are beautiful too. I love that large painting. It reminds me of the style (don't know artist name, maybe it's the same) but it is of a woman playing a grand piano and the room around her is so soft and pretty. My SIL had that one, but it burned up when her home caught on fire. I would love to have had it..Happy Weekend..Judy

  2. It's such a charming display! I have a head vase a lot like those, too. They've gotten very expensive around here.
    Have a great weekend!

  4. Your head vases are looking mighty fine there on mantel with your pictures, and those two plants flanking the middle one are super cute in those little containers on the plates. It's a great new arrangement.

  6. You are making me feel so guilty! I almost never change my mantel display, except for Halloween and Christmas. Thanks for inspiring me to do better. You did a great job!

  7. Looking so good Carlene. You have got me in the mood to do a Spring mantel now. Love how you decorated this and using the plates and bowls as risers is a great idea, although, I do love the old books with the yellowed pages too.

  8. I love your vintage floral print anchoring the whole mantel! I can hardly wait to paint our living room walls a shade of white. The gilded frames do look better against white.
