My Vintage Bathroom: Plates on the Walls

April 11, 2012
I am continuing "My Vintage Bathroom" series of posts today with plates on the walls. My plates are hung above the tile on the sheet rocked, yellow painted top portion of each wall.

Before I post my photos and descriptions, I have to share with you a photo emailed to me from Vickie@Ranger 911 of a bathroom featured in a Mary Engelbreit magazine with similar colored tile. Thanks, Vickie, I love it!

From Mary Engelbreit's Magazine.
The plates:

This salad plate has a blue willow pattern but is pink (almost coral) and unmarked.

This blue willow salad plate is marked Churchill, England. I have most of this set.
These vintage tin plates are marked Made in Belgium Daher Decorated Tin Ware. They also have some French or Belgian titles on the front. I thought it may pertain to the seasons. The colors of the plates work well with my tile, and the scenes on the plates are fun.

I got this set of four luncheon plates by Winterling, West Germany, for a wedding present in 1976. These plates compliment the tile too.

This little fruit bowl is marked Liberty Blue Historic Colonial Scenes, Betsy Ross, Made in England.
This plate is marked Dolphin China, Dynasty Blue. It has blue with coral accents.

I love blue and white transferware. This one is by Adams, England, "Mayflower".
I have two of these, one hangs on each side of the "Mayflower" Plate. They are fruit bowls, Countryside Enoch Wedgwood, Tunstall Ltd, England.
This plate is not vintage. It was made in China. It's Rose Brocade pattern by Skye McGhie.

I think plates are perfect for a vintage bathroom!

Coming up next in the vintage bathroom series, powder tins and vanity items!

  1. I thought that photo looked familiar. :@

I am a plate collector, too, so I love plates in every room of the house. You have a wonderful collection of vintage plates in your bathroom. The 6 sided plate is very unusual.

  2. Plates are a great way to decorate the bathroom since they're impervious to humidity etc that might ruin other items. I never thought about it but I have a bunch (LOTS) of Norman Rockwell plates from my Mother and I need to start utilizing them. Thanks for the great idea! I love the ME bathroom!

  3. Carlene: Your plates are gorgeous. There is nothing I like better than a plate used as art on a wall. That Mary Englebreit picture is certainly a cousin to your bathroom. I love the colors..Happy Wednesday..Judy

  7. What beautiful plates! They are perfect for a vintage bathroom.

I nearly fell off my chair when I saw that picture that was emailed to you. I had that same exact tile in our bathroom up until last summer. I've never seen anyone with that same color tile!
