My friend Diane gave me this little vintage bookcase to upcycle.

I gave it a makeover, and put it in my bedroom.

I gave the little bookcase a light scuff sanding with 220 grit sandpaper just to be sure the finish was roughened up a bit. (It took about 10 minutes)

After wiping it down with a damp rag, I brushed on two coats of Dixie Belle Paint in Midnight Sky.  Dixie Belle's website describes Midnight Sky as follows: Midnight Sky is a dark blue black. You’ll see this calming color when you take a look through a telescope at night. Whether your style is modern or rustic, Midnight Sky will make your space feel more grounded. Use this dramatic color to add dimension to your painted project.

I chose not to distress the bookcase at all.

I waxed the chalk paint with Dixie Belle's Best Dang Wax in black.  I used a wax brush to apply the wax with the grain. Then went back with a PFC Painting & Cleaning Rag and wiped in a circular motion.  After waiting 20-30 minutes, I wiped the waxed surfaces with a clean rag to remove any excess wax.

I placed the bookcase along one bedroom wall and decorated it with several of my upcycled projects.

Next I moved on to painting a waterfall chest that had been painted black with chalkboard paint (not chalk paint).  This was a project I had painted before I purchased actual chalk paint.

I used Midnight Sky for the chest as well.

After the drawers were dry, I stenciled a Swiss Cross stencil on the chest using Dixie Belle Chalk Paint in Burlap.

I waxed the dresser with Dixie Belle's Best Dang Wax in Black.

My hardware had a nickel finish so I rubbed them down with Rub n Buff in Antique Gold using my finger and a Qtip.

I added a jute runner to the top of the chest, and placed a television set on the runner.

Not beautiful but real life!
