I found this Minnesota shaped cutting board at Goodwill recently.  I love finding figural cutting boards!

Last Christmas, I purchased a Gnome Sweet Gnome - 1000 pc Minnesota Puzzle that had a buffalo check border.  It took my daughter, husband and I several days to complete the puzzle, but it was fun!

The cutting board wasn't especially greasy feeling, but I washed it down with hot soapy Dawn Dish Soap water and a rag, before brushing on a couple of coats of Fusion Mineral Paint in Fort York RedI used a sponge brush.

I then pulled out my buffalo check stencil from Old Sign Stencils!  I haven't used it for a while, but I've always loved it for fun Christmas projects.

I centered the stencil on a diagonal and taped it in place.

I used Fusion Mineral Paint in Ash to pounce on the buffalo check stencil.  (Use a really dry brush)

The stencil was just a little bit too small to fill the whole board, so I had to move the stencil side to side and up and down to realign the stencils checks, blanks and lines to finish off the buffalo checking.

I picked up this small, inexpensive gnome stencil at Hobby Lobby last week. It was the perfect size.

Since I wanted the project to look Christmasy, I didn't pounce on the butterflies and flowers from the stencil.

I chose Fusion Mineral Paint in Raw Silk to add the gnome stencil.  The off white stenciling popped on the red & black buffalo check.

I used the smallest snowflake stencils in the Holiday Icon stencil pack.  I used a very fine brush to pounce on the mini snowflake stencil.

I think the gnome home Christmas sign turned out really well!

I waxed the sign with Dixie Belle Best Dang Wax in Clear and a lint free rag.

I tied a length of jute twine through the hole in the top.  The sign can either hang to lean against a wall.

Gnomes are very popular in Minnesota for holiday decorating!
