This little slatted folding step stool/chair was shared in my end of July junk finds post HERE.

It was a free item that a relative was throwing out.  I saved it with a great makeover!

It's a combination chair and stool.

The first thing I did was to remove the stickers from the stool/chair.  Wetting it down good and a little sandpaper removed them all.

Then, I gave it a good cleaning with hot soapy Dawn Dish water and a rag.

Next, I brushed on a couple of coats of Dixie Belle Chalk Finish Paint in Caviar.

I pulled out my *Old Sign Stencils's Shipping Crate Stamps Stencil.  This stencil is so fun! Who doesn't like pallet markings and shipping stamps?

All prices on the Old Sign Stencils's website are listed in Canadian currency.  A handy currency conversion link is provided for your convenience.

*Old Sign Stencils provided me with complimentary samples. All opinions about these fabulous stencils are my own.

I pounced the various stencils all over the slats and sides with Fusion Mineral Paint in Raw Silk.

More stenciling.

I stenciled the back of the chair slats with a couple of stencils that are visible when it's folded into a step stool.

Next, I wrapped a scrap of 220 grit sandpaper over a sanding sponge and lightly distressed the piece, concentrating on the edges.

I also lightly sanded the stenciling.

Then I applied Dixie Belle Best Dang Wax in Clear with a fiber rag.  The bottom stool slat has been waxed.  See how the wax makes the paint a very rich black!

This folding stool/chair is too cute for utilitarian use! It's decorative!

It's great with fall decor.
