Painting & Stenciling A Dollar Tree Wooden Easter Sign

I found this unfinished wooden Happy Easter cutout sign at Dollar Tree.

I gave it a makeover!

First, I removed the jute twine hanger by untying it.

Then, I brushed on one coat of Fusion Mineral Paint in Ash using a sponge brush. (You could use another brand of acrylic paint for this step.)

Next, I brushed on two coats of Dixie Belle Chalk Furniture Paint in Farmhouse Green. (You could use another brand of chalk paint that wet distresses.)

Then I cut off a snippet of a dark green pan scrubber and a green tee shirt rag.

I dampened them and wet distressed the edges. If you distress the same day as you painted, you can sometimes just use a rag, but I painted this yesterday so I rubbed with the damp scrubber. If you remove too much paint, touch it up with more paint.)

If I used sand paper, both coats of paint would be rubbed off.

I then pulled out my Dollar Tree flower stencil.

I taped the stencil in the center of the Happy Easter part. I used blue painter's tape to secure the stencil to the sign, and block any pouncing outside the stencil lines.

I stenciled the flowers with Dixie Belle Chalk Finish Paint in Soft Pink. (You could use other acrylic or chalk paint for this.)
