Fall Buffalo Check Pumpkin Patch Arrow Sign Idea

I found this rustic wooden arrow at a garage sale a few weeks ago for $3.

I decided to make the arrow a fall/autumn sign.

First, I watered down a few spoonfuls of Fusion Mineral Paint in Champlain. About 50/50 water and paint. I then brushed it on the center part of the arrow with a sponge brush in a uneven manner. I also left the edges of the arrow center in wood tone.

I then pulled out my "go to" stencil, Buffalo Check from *Old Sign Stencils. I am still seeing lots of buffalo checks at the craft stores, decor shops, and on Pinterest too.

This stencil is available in two sizes. I find the smaller one works great for decor projects, and the larger one for furniture.

I positioned the stencil on the diagonal on the arrow center, and secured the stencil with blue painter's tape.

I used Fusion Mineral Paint in Ash to stencil the squares. Ash is a charcoal shade, lighter than black.

I moved the stencil from left to right to finish out the diagonal checks. Be sure to line the stencil up correctly with your last row of checks.

The Pumpkin Patch stencil from *Old Sign Stencils fit the center portion of the arrow just right.

I pounced on the lettering with Ceramcoat Acrylic Paint in Terra Cotta.

I very lightly distressed the stenciling with 220 grit sandpaper, and sealed the stenciled area with two coats of Krylon Gallery Series Artist and Clear Coatings Aerosol in Satin Finish.

The arrow already had two sawtooth hangers on the back.

The rustic arrow sign blends in well with fall colors and rustic woods and metals.
