Thrift Shop Faded Wall Art Up-cycle with Paint & Stencils

January 17, 2019
I found this framed Bible verse at the thrift shop.

I took the frame, glass and cardboard art apart.

The Bible verse is a print, and is very faded out.  Look at the edges where the frame protected the print from the sun.

It's so easy to up-cycle the print with paint.

I brushed two coats of Dixie Belle Chalk Finish Paint in Hurricane Gray on the print.

For the frame, I base coated it with Rust-Oleum Painters Touch Latex in Flat Black.  Just one coat.

Next I painted a couple coats of Chalked Ultra Matte Paint in Chiffon Cream over the flat black latex base coat.

I then "wet distressed" the frame edges with a damp rag to expose black in some areas.  Chalk paint is very easy to wet distress.

This FolkArt Tropical Leaf Motif Stencil is one of my latest stencil purchases.

I stenciled the three leaves on my Dixie Belle Hurricane Gray painted cardboard print, using Martha Stewart Acrylic Satin Paint in Norfolk Pine, (I think I purchased it at Michael's) for the large leaf, Ceramcoat Multi-Surface Satin Paint in Trail Tan for the middle sized leaf, and Fusion Mineral Paint in Upper Canada Green for the smallest leaf.  Upper Canada Green has been discontinued.

This is my latest Folkart Paper Stencil Sign Pack.

These paper stencil packs are a good buy.  You will get your money's worth with any of Folkart's Stencil Packs.

I stenciled the "Warm Thoughts" card stock stencil, from the pack, on top of my tropical split leaves with Ceramcoat Acrylic Paint in Light Ivory.

After all my painting and stenciling, this is the upcycled cardboard print from my thrift shop frame.

I put the frame parts all back together, and
added a sawtooth hanger to the back of the frame.

Who isn't thinking warm thoughts and tropical leaves at this time of year?
