Outdoor Junk Vignette with Cabinet Door Project Tutorial www.organizedclutterqueen.blogspot.com
I love to decorate the outdoors with JUNK!  I'm Carlene from Organized Clutter, and I'm itching to get outside and plant my flower gardens and decorate them with JUNK!  It's too early here in northern Minnesota, but that's not going to stop me from thinking spring with a front door, covered patio project.

I will show you how I made this cabinet door wall art.

Junky Outdoor Table www.organizedclutterqueen.blogspot.com
I am accessorizing my cabinet door wall art with this perfectly dilapidated little table!  This is one of my newest pieces of JUNK.

Now for my Project Tutorial:

I purchased this cabinet door frame for $5.  It is 23 1/2" wide by 37 1/2" long.

I purchased a sheet of unfinished wainscoting and cut it to fit inside the cabinet door frame.  The sheet of wainscot was $10.99.  I do have quite a bit left over and will use it for other projects.

Short nails with large heads were pounded in to hold the beadboard in place.

Next I painted the whole door with flat black paint.  This is the base coat.  To be sure the paint would stick to the shiny cabinet frame, I added a teaspoon of non-sanded grout to my paint to create a chalky paint.

Next I painted two coats of Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in "Old White" over the black base coat.

Then I lightly distressed the piece on the edges and on the beadboard grooves with 150 grit sandpaper.  I waxed the piece with clear soft wax.

Now to add some heavy, rusty, junky hardware.

Position the hardware on the cabinet door.  You will need a drill to start the holes, and even then you may need your husband (I did) to screw in the screws all the way.

The Hobby Lobby "B" (that I got on clearance for half price) had two wire loops at the top of the letter for hanging.  I have two small screws through the beadboard front for the "B" to hang on.

  18. Okay, I signed up for your email and on FB, but what was best was being introduced to your site by Funky Junk Donna. She certainly knows how to pick her buddies. I love your work. Because of apartment life I can't handle cutting wood down to fit a project, but I like the idea so much that I'm on my way to my neighborhood hardware store to get a cabinet door that I can adapt. I already have loads of M's but a welcome like this at my front door will be great. Thanks for the ideas you shared.
