Painting a $5 Shelf
September 06, 2012
I bought this shelf at the Second Act, a local consignment shop in July for $5.
I liked the mirror and the caned insets, and I also liked the lip around the front edge of the shelf. It has been stained but not varnished.
I didn't paint it immediately. I didn't know what color to paint it at first. But my "go to" color is Rustoleum American Accents Heirloom White, and I thought white would be good with the caning insets.
I used a dry brush technique that some of the under stain color shows through and then I distressed the edges with sandpaper.
I am going to have my husband help me hang it, and then when it's in place and holding some fun collectibles, I will let you see it again!

ReplyDeleteLooks so much better Carlene! I love Heirloom White. I am never without a full can at the ready! It's like the perfect band aid to fix any poorly thought out thrift find :-)
ReplyDeleteNow that's a great before and after! What a great white update to that drab brown "before". Can't wait to see what you fill it with!
