Thrifted Terracotta Pedestal Column Makeover

April 15, 2021
Photo of a faux finished terracotta pedestal column
I picked up this fluted terracotta pedestal at the thrift shop recently. (I could tell it was terracotta from the bottom. It was fairly heavy.)

The finish reminded me of camouflage, but I'm sure the faux finish is supposed to resemble mossy, aged ruins.

First, I washed the the pedestal down with hot soapy Dawn Dish Soap water and a rag.

I then brushed on a couple of coats of Dixie Belle Chalk Finish Paint in Drop ClothDrop Cloth really brightened it up.

I then tried my Hobby Lobby Laurel Wreath stencil on the top of the pedestal.

The stencil fit the pedestal really well, so I swirled it on using Fusion Mineral Paint in Ash.

The paint and stencils were sealed with Dixie Belle Easy Peasy Spray Wax.

I haven't decided whether to use the pedestal in the house or out on the covered patio, but it will be awesome with a plant on top.

The pastel books on the ladder were upcycled with Dixie Belle Paints and Iron Orchid decor transfers HERE.
