Thrifted Cracker Tray Makeovers - From Farmhouse To Bohemian Style

January 17, 2022

In April of 2017, I upcycled a thrifted wooden cracker serving tray in a blog post HERE.  After being sprayed with Clear Zinsser Bulls Eye Shellac Spray (to prevent stain bleed through on light colored paint), I used Krylon Colonial Ivory Spray Paint on the tray.

After adding the metal label frame and "Succulents" tag, I filled the tray with four succulents from Dollar Tree.

Lately, I have moved on from super creamy whites in favor of black and whiter whites, so the tray received a new makeover.

This is the cracker tray before any makeovers.

I removed the metal label frame and painted the cracker tray with two coats of Dixie Belle Chalk Paint in Caviar.

I found a border stencil in my stash. This On The Surface Horizon stencil design pack is available online HERE.

I purchased the stencils at a Walmart in Canada for $5.

I centered the stencil (I used the tray handle as center) and taped it on the cracker tray's side. I did not use the half design stencil at the far left of the top stencil, but I did add three extra full designs on each side of the tray. I ended up with 13 designs. (I moved the stencil over to the right after I discovered the half stencil, and after I took this photo)

I pounced on the stencil using Fusion Mineral Paint in Raw Silk

I lightly sanded the stenciling with 220 grit sandpaper, and then waxed the tray with Dixie Belle Best Dang Wax in Clear.

I think my cracker tray has gone from farmhouse style to a more contemporary or Boho style.
