LAKE Directional Sign with Old Sign Stencils

July 24, 2016

When you are out and about garage sale-ing, thrifting, and browsing consignment and occasional shops too, you just never know what you will find.  I am the queen of cheater building, but this was the start to a couple of really easy projects, even for me.  I ran across these two directional signs at Morgan's Mercantile & General Store, a local occasional shop and Etsy store too.  The owner confessed  that she can't stencil and the signs weren't selling as is.  I used to feel that way too about stenciling, but with practice and a really dry stencil brush, I think everybody can get the hang of it.

That same afternoon I painted a couple coats of Painter's Touch flat white paint on the smaller of the two signs.  They had been base coated in dark brown paint.

Next I pulled out my complimentary *Getaway Collection stencils from Funky Junk Friend Donna's Old Sign Stencil Collection.  I used a small bristle style stencil brush and black acrylic craft paint for the lettering.  I brushed on a coat of satin Polycrylic to protect the signs.  You can always add another coat next year.  Water based poly is non-yellowing.

I drilled a deeper hole with a longer drill bit on this sign than I usually do since it was heavier, and used a 1/4" steel rod instead of 3/16" for the ground stake.

If you would like to make this sign from scratch, the center is 1 1/2" square and 44" tall, and the dog eared sign boards are 12" x 3 1/2".  This would be cheaper than my two pre-made signs but I am hoping to sell this one so my bigger garden sign will be free!

*Old Sign Stencils provided me with complimentary samples.
All opinions about these fabulous products are my own.

I would love to have your little sign. Would you email me your price and of course there would be shipping and handling, I don't know if you even want to mess with that, but if you do and you haven't sold it yet send me an email.
