Alternative Christmas Trees 2015

December 08, 2015

Every year I try and come up with ideas for alternative Christmas trees.  Alternative trees have become quite popular in recent years.

Berry Sieve Alternative Christmas Tree
This berry sieve tree is one of my favorites.  See more alternative trees including a funnel tree HERE.

Alternative tree 2015 number one begins with an old clothespin, a terracotta pot, and a galvanized tree ornament from Michael's that I purchased at 60% off.  It was originally $3.99. First I cut the rounded tip off of my clothespin and painted a thin coat of ivory craft paint on my pot.  Then I antiqued it very slightly with dark wax.  I also rubbed a little dark wax on my tree along the edges.

Next I put a screw through the pot hole and into the clothespin.

Then I slipped the galvanized tree into the clothespin and added a screw and a nut to hold it in place.

I added some Spanish moss and a jute ribbon.

Then I finished off my tree with a metal star and buttons added with hot glue.

I love galvanized metal!

Alternative tree 2015 number two starts with a wooden candle base, two green flower frogs I purchased last week at the consignment shop, a metal flower frog I already had and a great rusty metal and mirrored star treetop I purchased at an occasional craft shop.

And it doesn't get any easier than this.  Stack 'em up.  Candle base, green flower frogs, silver flower frog and treetop!

  3. Love all you alternative Christmas trees. The one made with flower frogs is my favorite. Definitely going to see if I have the right kind of flower frogs to make myself one too!
