Vintage Laundry Room Mini Makeover

February 01, 2015
I changed my laundry room wall color in November from yellow to Sherwin Williams Dover White.  It was a great opportunity to change up the decor.  It's still vintage but less kitschy and more farmhouse.

Here are the before and afters:

Looking in from the hallway before.

Here is the after.  I painted the red bowl shelf with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in "Old White".  I joined the washboards into a piece of wall art.  I also painted an old ironing board top with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in "Cream" and hung it on the door to my kitchen.

Moving left this old spice rack got an Annie Sloan makeover in "Old White" as well.  Before.

The telephone is a 1940's reconditioned wall phone that really works.

A grain sack towel hangs on a crank handle that I repurposed here.

Most of these kitschy vintage items were packed away from this before photo.

I had a large old family photo put on canvas to cover up my electric box in this before.

I added a shutter above the canvas with more old family photos in this after.  The canvas was done by Canvas on Demand, and includes my grandparents, my mom and her sisters and my great grandparents circa WWII.

All of this stuff hanging or standing under the clothes bar (tension shower rod) got in the way in this before.

So the new and improved after is less cluttered and works much better.

And more cabinets for a pantry right off the kitchen.  My laundry room is in the middle of my 1950's rambler and gets a lot of through traffic!

Thanks for looking at my laundry room makeover!

  2. WOW, it looks great Carlene. My laundry room is in the garage and I HATE IT! Not appealing at all and I cannot get out of there quick enough. You really did a terrific job with all your items.

  12. I love how you kept the charm but without the clutter. I like the new paint job on your shelf and the iron-board art work on the door is delightful. Our home is a little 1905 cottage and I'm always looking for ideas and ways to keep and enhance it's charm. I am your newest follower. I would be totally honored if you were to visit my blog and even consider following me back. Love, love, love your little corner of blog-land.
