A Marriage of Two Frames

November 02, 2014
I have always loved gold frames, even when gold frames weren't in.  I have a traditional, vintage style in my living room that works with my antiques and vintage chandelier and fireplace mantel with dental molding.

I purchased this flower painting about 15 years ago for $20 at a garage sale.  It had been painted by a local artist, Amelia Bartkowski, that was quite talented.  I never quite liked the gold tone in this frame.  It was always a little too brassy for my taste but I never found an antique gold paint that I liked.

I found this antique frame recently for $12 at an antique shop.  It was just a little bigger than the gold frame.

So I got the idea to cut down the frame to fit inside the white frame.  Not much needed to be cut off.

I painted the edges off white.

Next I squirted some E6000 along the inside edge of the white frame. I laid some heavy books on the frames overnight.

I like the way the addition of the white frame tones down the gold frame, and the double framing makes the painting seem that much more special!

Two frames become one unique frame!

  4. Carlene, perfect marriage! I think that they will be a happy couple for years to come. lol! I actually bought a frame that has doube layers like that at a Thrift. I painted the outer edge white but left the inside. I need to get it out, finish it and do something with it. Love yours!! I have been thinking about this years, "Creating Christmas" link party. Wondering if you want to join in again or if you have too much on your plate? Would love to have you, but no pressure my friend!
