I purchased this unusually shaped basket thrifting recently for five dollars.
It has a wooden bottom and a wooden edge around the top.
I gave the basket a couple of coats of Annie Sloan French Linen chalk paint. Of course I then distressed it with sand paper, and waxed it, but it needed something more.
I had purchased these miniature wood appliques recently from D Lawless Hardware online (I am not being compensated for this post). Most of these cost me under $2 each. I think one of these would work.
I used an applique from Hobby Lobby on my re-purposing project here, and liked the look. Hobby Lobby doesn't have many appliques to choose from.
I chose this one for the basket up-cycle. I painted the applique with Annie Sloan Old White Chalk Paint. I waxed it with clear and dark waxes, and then glued it on the front top of the basket with Aleene's Tacky Glue.
And wallah, there you have it!
The basket takes on a decidedly "French" attitude with the gray paint and curly-Q applique. The basket is good for toilet paper storage,
And it's perfect for magazine storage too.
Do you like wood applique trims too?
