DIY Fall Copper Tray Tiered Stand

September 21, 2014
My project today starts with two thrift shop wooden candlesticks, a flat wooden pillar candle holder, and a round vintage copper serving tray.  I cleaned the tray with a lemon and salt and a little steel wool to remove some of the stains but not all of the patina.

First I painted the three candle holders with Annie Sloan French Linen Chalk Paint.  The pieces were then distressed and waxed with clear wax.

How I put the tiered tray stand together:  1.   First saw the tops off of the candlesticks.  The taller, skinny one was cut off below the hollowed out candle hole.  2.  Drill a hole in the center of the copper tray.  3.  Attach the bottom (pedestal) to the bottom and the taller candlestick to the top of the tray with a double sided screw or dowel screw.  Also drill starter holes in the candlesticks.  I also dropped Elmer's ProBond Glue in the holes for extra strength and stability.  6.  The pillar candle holder was attached with a screw right through the center top.

I love the gray paint with the copper in the tray.

The colors were also perfect for an autumn display with gourds.

The materials for this stand are out there at your local thrift shops.  A copper tray may be more scarce but you can find an aluminum one!

  11. Oh, that turned out great! I really love this idea, I totally want to make a tiered stand like this. I think it would look super cute with some potted flowers on the top of it. Thanks for the instructions! Where did you end up finding your copper tray?
