Two Dollar Decor

September 30, 2012
Do you ever pick up ugly stuff at the thrift shop knowing that it has possibilities? I do. Like these vintage Enesco hand painted, framed tiles of wild fowl. Hand painted white tiles with pheasants and geese mounted on green felt and framed in dinged up, ugly wood frames. I paid $2 for the pair. They still had their Enesco, made in Japan stickers on the backs. Our master bedroom is decorated with vintage wildlife and fishing items. My husband is also a collector. He collects vintage fishing rods, lures, and reels, and also duck decoys and vintage wildlife figurines. I really don't mind a wildlife bedroom because I have my collections displayed in pretty much every other room of the house. I first took the old pictures apart and got rid of the green felt, and painted the frames with Rustoleum Heirloom White. I pried the tiles off of the thin board backing and mod podged a scrap of burlap to the back board. I distressed the frames lightly and put the pictures b

Masked Pumpkins

September 29, 2012
While surfing the internet for Halloween ideas, I saw some felt owl masks. I got the idea to make owl masks for the pumpkins I had outside my front door on the covered patio. Totally flying by the seat of my pants, without a pattern, or tutorial to follow, I cut out some felt owl masks and blanket stitched them together.  These are scans of the masks. I thought I was off to a good start, and purchased some black elastic to stretch around the pumpkins and hold the masks on. After putting the first mask on the pumpkins, I decided they needed more. Maybe a hat. Dollar Tree had pirate hats and Menard's had cowboy hats. At least that's what the packaging said. The cowboy hat looks like a combination fedora/cowboy hat. Maybe part bowler too. I also hot glued yellow buttons on the pumpkins for eyes. I thought this was also a step in the right direction. Kinda cute... This is the pirate. I mean pirate owl. That is my craft pro

Primping My Bike For Fall

September 27, 2012
If you followed my blog over the summer you have seen my white spray painted vintage bike. Today I primped my bike for autumn. The dried plant in the watering can sitting in the bike's basket is my Baby Tut grass. Also in the basket are assorted gourds and mini pumpkins. A couple large pumpkins in galvanized buckets, a sign and a daisy round out my display. The bike will be going in the shed in about a month. Before our looooooonnnnnnnggggg Minnesota winter!

Rustic Fall Candle Jar Copycat

September 26, 2012
While trying to find an inspiration for Debbiedoo's Copycat Party, I received this Kruenpeeper Creek Gifts catalog in the mail. On page 55 is this rustic vignette made from their Fall Mix Jar Lamp $26, Angel Hair Vine $3.95 and Rusty Bucket $5.99. That's almost $36. I already had a small old galvanized bucket that I use outside for an annual, a grubby flameless candle (however mine was taller than the inspiration candle), dollar store Spanish Moss, and a quart jar. I had to purchase some wire for $3 (I have more for another project) and $3 worth of Putka pods. Here is my copycat on the dryer in my laundry room. I actually like the galvanized pail better than the rusty bucket.
