Masked Pumpkins

September 29, 2012

While surfing the internet for Halloween ideas, I saw some felt owl masks. I got the idea to make owl masks for the pumpkins I had outside my front door on the covered patio.

Totally flying by the seat of my pants, without a pattern, or tutorial to follow, I cut out some felt owl masks and blanket stitched them together.

These are scans of the masks.

I thought I was off to a good start, and purchased some black elastic to stretch around the pumpkins and hold the masks on.

After putting the first mask on the pumpkins, I decided they needed more. Maybe a hat. Dollar Tree had pirate hats and Menard's had cowboy hats. At least that's what the packaging said. The cowboy hat looks like a combination fedora/cowboy hat. Maybe part bowler too.

I also hot glued yellow buttons on the pumpkins for eyes. I thought this was also a step in the right direction.

Kinda cute...

This is the pirate. I mean pirate owl.

That is my craft project for this week...my house is a mess...felt everywhere...buttons...scraps...thread...in three different rooms...I am a messy crafter.
