Vintage Easter Card Vignette

March 18, 2012
I don't have many vintage Easter collectibles.

This card is one of them. It was my Grandma's, and dates back to the early 1900's.

Here is a scan of the card before I framed it with some burlap.

I didn't realize the scanner had cropped the card before I had it all framed up. I already had the frame. It used to be silver, and I just painted it heirloom white a week ago.

I found a couple of little white ceramic rabbits and a white ceramic basket (just in time for Easter) recently at a local consignment shop, Second Act. The bunnies were just a little too white, so I rubbed a little walnut stain on them.

Yesterday I purchased three shabby, lace, fabric eggs at the Tattered Angel.

I also added a couple shabby white candlesticks with tan taper candles (the candles look a little pink in the photo but they are tan). I also added a little shredded brown paper to set off the whites, but decided to go back to just the doily.

What do you think, better with or without the shredded paper?

  2. That's a tough question - I love the Easter decorations both ways......but maybe a little more love with the shredded paper.

  3. Your vignette is so pretty with or without the shredded paper. I think I like it better with the shredded paper. The paper picks up the background of your framed antique card print (and the bunnies do need something to make their bunny nest from). Happy Spring!

  4. Oh, and I meant to add I think the bunnies show off better without the shredded paper.

  5. Hi Carlene,
I love the vintage card, and your gorgeous framing and styling has really made it pop. Now it is the center of attention, in a most lovely vignette.
Thanks so much for linking it with us. I prefer no paper.

  6. I think it's cute both ways Carlene, love the way that egg with the blue ribbon picks up the blue in the card.

  8. Carlene,
    I prefer with the paper.
Also, I was thinking how lovely the card is, and that it is a cross, if you're Christian (or simply like the idea) you could leave that part of your display year round. You could use the candlesticks as well and just replace the bunnies and eggs with some other white items. Different ones for different seasons, or perhaps some "Milk Glass" items.
    Cheers and Blessings,
    Lesa
